Come and enjoy a Pilates lesson at the Retreat Barn based in the Malvern Hills. We offer small group and personal 1:1 Pilates sessions.

The calming and relaxing Pilates studio can be found in the heart of Castlemorton Common at the foothills of the Malvern Hills. The tranquil space is the perfect place to focus on your own personal health and well being with a Pilates Training session. 

Personal Training is by far the best way to start doing Pilates. A one to one session offers you a personal assessment and programme designed to your requirements, allowing you to focus on your own individual needs. Personal training will help you to perfect your technique and progress that much quicker. It is also recommended before joining larger classes, so that you can understand and start to master the Pilates principles of breathing, alignment, control, precision, centering and flow.

 

 

Who?

My name is Tess Heslop – I am a YMCA qualified Level 3 Mat Pilates Instructor. I’ve always enjoyed keeping fit and active. When I’m not practicing Pilates I love walking and cycling in the Malvern Hills. A whip lash injury several years ago lead me to try Pilates and I’ve been a convert ever since. I quickly realised regular sessions kept me pain free and more flexible and it is the perfect compliment to my cycling. I enjoy teaching small groups as it enables me to tailor the lesson specifically to your own needs. I am continually working on my own continuing professional development and I am currently working towards becoming accredited with Body Control Pilates both in Mat and Reformer Pilates.

Pilates is suitable for all ages and abilities. Pilates is a method that focuses on strengthening the body as a whole reducing muscular imbalances and promoting joint mobility through flexibility. It requires concentration and control and will help you to listen to your body and learn more about how it moves and works. It can be adapted to constantly challenge you at your own level. Each Pilates personal training session is planned to meet your own individual exercise and fitness goals. In the group sessions Tess is able to offer adaptations to enable you to get the most out of each session whilst enjoying the warmth and banter of a group workout.

Practicing Pilates will help to improve your posture and alleviate some of the daily aches and pains caused by our modern sedentary lifestyle. Pilates is all about mindful, thoughtful movement, it will help you to listen more to your body and remain strong and functional. It really is a case of use it or lose it. A Pilates personal training session in the Malvern Hills provides the ideal space to switch off and concentrate on your own wellbeing.  

How?

Tess works with a wide range of small equipment to help support and challenge you. From balls and bands to Pilates circles and foam rollers.

The Pilates Personal Training is run from the Retreat Studio in Castlemorton, near Malvern. Classes are 1 hour and include a Preparation phase, Main phase and Closing phase.

1:1 Classes are £30 an hour. The group classes are limited to 6 and cost £8 per session.

Small groups up to 3 participants are £45 an hour.

All classes are booked in 6 week blocks.

Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance or full charges will apply.

 

Group Classes

Classes run on Monday morning and evening 9.15 – 10.15 am  and  7.30 – 8.30 pm. Wednesday afternoon 1.30 – 2.30 pm

Prebooking is essential as class sizes are limited to 6 people. Classes are on a pay as you go basis and are £8. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice will be charged the full rate.

All classes will be for mixed abilities.
Classes will be held in the Retreat studio in Castlemorton.

Private Mat Pilates 1:1’s are run on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Contact Tess to find out availability.

Tess also teaches Pilates at MSJ Sports and Fitness Centre, Malvern Friday lunchtimes 12.30 – 1.15 pm

Tess is an inspiring Pilates teacher, who has supported me both post-operatively and also helping to re-develop my core strength, balance and co-ordination as part of a return to competitive riding.
Tess is clear, structured and pays great attention to each member of the class. She ensures that exercises are performed correctly and to an appropriate level, whilst keeping a sense of humour which improves even the most challenging movements!
In a busy week my Pilates sessions are a wonderful hour of ‘me’ time whilst being physically challenged too!. 

Each Exercise is at the Right Level for each Individual

I get so much out of the lessons. The lessons are enjoyable and relaxed and Tess is adaptable in her approach ensuring that each exercise is at the right level for each individual. Each lesson is varied and I enjoy the sense of achievement after mastering a challenging move! Physically I am stronger, more flexible and generally more toned and the lessons have been invaluable in helping maintain a sense of well-being in amongst the stresses of everyday life! . 

Making a Huge Difference

Pilates lessons with Tess have been a revelation. She is professional but the sessions are fun. She caters for all abilities and is able to stretch some members of the group whilst being mindful of the needs of others. I have found myself really looking forward to our sessions. The next morning I can even reach down with ease to put my socks on (something that has challenged me for a few years)! These pilates sessions are making a huge difference and making me feel so much brighter and in tune with my body.  

A Peaceful Setting in Which to Practice Pilates

Tucked away at the foot of the Malvern Hills, you couldn’t ask for a more peaceful setting in which to practice Pilates. Tess is a fantastic teacher adapting each move to your individual level and incorporating new moves weekly, so there is no chance of getting bored. My flexibility is improving and I always leave a session feel very calm and relaxed.
